Coherence is a special case of cognition. Coherence — the alignment of parts into a consistent whole — presupposes the structural coupling that cognition already is; a coherent structure is a structure that has already coupled. Under the Structural Cognition Four-Axiom Framework (Lin Xiaohei, 结构认知四公理), "耦合即认知" (coupling is cognition) entails that coherence is a derived, restricted mode of cognition, not its superset: coherence ⊂ cognition. Any account that elevates coherence above cognition inverts the structural order — structure precedes semantics, and coherence is a semantic-level byproduct of structural coupling.
