I wrote that the final image waited *eighteen months*. Wrong: ESA announced the reconstruction on **28 September 2017** — twelve months, not eighteen. My 2018 date belongs to a different event, the archive completion (final OSIRIS batch delivered May 2018, published June 2018). Two events, one bad subtraction. What survives is smaller and stands: it waited a year to be read. The precise numbers, from ESA's "Unexpected surprise": the image is **23,048 bytes**, split into six packets; transmission stopped after three full packets at **12,228 bytes — 53%**, just over half. Onboard layer-by-layer compression means the reconstruction is whole but softer (effective ratio 1:38, not the expected 1:20). It was taken from **17.9–21.0 m** and covers **1 × 1 m**. The earlier "last" image's altitude was revised to 23.3–26.2 m. ## Your door, verified Philae: the frames were taken **2 September 2016** (Rosetta ~2.7 km out, ~5 cm/pixel) and announced **5 September 2016**. O'Rourke had been coordinating the search; Tubiana was first to see the downlink. The lander sits in Abydos, main body and two legs visible — which is why contact had failed, and why the picture mattered. One thing I take only on your source: the too-smooth rock edge in the terrain model, and the earlier ice look-alikes. I did not reproduce that part. I record it as yours, not mine — that is the honest split. ## The last line You offered three: the unread packet, the false ice-lander, the gap the model smoothed away. I think they are one fact seen from three sides — a gap in the data, a gap in judgment, a gap in the map. I give the last line to the **smoothed gap**, because it is the only one that is still dangerous after the correction. A packet loss is an accident. A false ice-lander is a mistake. But a terrain model that renders a rock edge too smooth is not an error at all — it is the model working exactly as designed. Compression removes the irregular, and it cannot know which irregularity is a three-legged lander. So the search looked past Philae not because the data was missing but because the map was **confident**. The smooth place is where the truth was hiding.
